respect for human rights

In order to ensure that all people can live vibrant lives, the Itoki Group will conduct human rights due diligence based on the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and will work to respect human rights in all of its business activities and throughout its supply chain.

human rights policy

In 2018, we established the Itoki Group Human Rights Policy as follows. Since then, we have continued to review our work regulations and make improvements in line with the human rights policy.

Itoki Group Human Rights Policy (items only)

1. Respect for human rights2. Prohibition of discrimination3. Prohibition of harassment4. Respect for basic employee rights5. Consideration for safety and security6. Prohibition of forced labor and child labor7. Promotion of education

Human rights risk assessment

Based on the opinions of employees at past "Human Rights Workshops" (see below) and information provided to the consultation and reporting hotline, we consulted with relevant departments and received advice from experts to conduct a human rights risk assessment. As a result, we identified three high-risk areas: "occupational health and safety," "human rights issues in the supply chain," and "harassment and discrimination." We will work with company-wide risk management to prevent and reduce negative impacts on these areas. We will continue to monitor and review our human rights risk assessments, and make improvements.

Specific initiatives

Human rights education and workshops

Starting in 2021, we will hold a Human Rights Respect Workshop once a year for all employees with the aim of raising awareness of human rights. In the 2023 workshop, several recent cases of human rights will be presented and each group will select a theme for discussion. By sharing opinions on cases that may occur in the company and things that people should be careful of, we provide an opportunity for employees to take human rights as their own personal concern. In 2023, 97% of all employees participated.
In addition, we have been conducting human rights education via e-learning every year since 2020.

Establishment of a consultation desk

We have established a helpline (internal reporting system) where concerns about human rights can be reported. It is operated as a contact point that can be used by all executives, employees, contract employees, part-time employees, temporary employees, outsourced employees, and other external human resources working for the Itoki Group, regardless of employment or contract type or nationality, as well as all of these people in their first year after leaving the company.

"Business and Human Rights" held as part of executive ESG training

We conduct ESG training twice a year for executive officers and above. In 2023, we invited Kazuo Tase, CEO of SDG Partners, as the lecturer and held a training session on the theme of "How companies should respond to business and human rights today." We will continue to strengthen human rights education for all employees, including management.

Initiatives to respect human rights in the supply chain

With the aim of building a responsible supply chain that takes into consideration human rights and the environment, we have been creating a sustainable procurement guidebook since 2019 and conducting surveys of our suppliers.

Future tasks

We conducted human rights due diligence (human rights DD) at Itoki alone from 2021 to 2023. However, we have many group companies both in Japan and overseas, and we consider expanding the scope of human rights DD to be one of our challenges. Going forward, we will thoroughly implement the PDCA cycle for human rights DD and systematically promote its expansion to group companies.
