With a work style centered around Ripple Lab, employees themselves enjoy change
Co-creation office to enhance productivity and creativity
OPTEX Company, Limited, headquartered in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture, a scenic location overlooking Lake Biwa, has launched the "New Work Style Project" to aim for new ways of working, with an eye on further business growth as a leading company in sensing technology. As they discussed the nature of the organization and the environment, they arrived at the direction of a work style in which employees think and act on their own. They changed the name of the project to "Ripple Work Project" and carried out an office renovation to increase productivity and creativity.

The head office, located on the west shore of Lake Biwa, was built in 2004. The location and the interior design at the time show the desire to provide a comfortable working environment for employees.

Experiments and verification work that had been carried out in a closed room were relocated to the center of the office area. This created an opportunity to exchange opinions with other departments and became a place for generating ideas. The furniture combines functionality and design to create a worldview for product development.

A large free-standing screen has been installed in the space adjacent to the cafe, making it a place for the exchange of knowledge, such as for internal presentations and seminars.

The west area has simple zoning that allows visitors to move around the floor. It is expected that tools and sensors will be installed on the mesh panels. The ceiling mesh is also equipped with power outlets.

Various types of work spaces have been set up around the Ripple Lab, with double-sided whiteboards set up on mesh panels to encourage the rapid sharing of ideas.

The east area office has a communication space in the center, giving the impression of walking along a lakeside promenade and offering a panoramic view of the entire work area.

The Ripple Lab logo was designed in collaboration with an external designer. The sign panel, which makes use of the raw materials of construction materials, evokes the image of a manufacturing workshop.

The cafe space, equipped with a water supply, is a place for employees to relax. Employees voluntarily operate the coffee machine, and the delicious aroma draws employees together, creating informal interaction.

The wall covering, designed with the sky and water, links with the scenery of Lake Biwa, creating a spacious space. It is used for meetings and events, and the seats by the windows overlooking the outside are popular for individual work.

This was our first time working with ITOKI, but we had the impression that they thoroughly understood the purpose and concept of our renewal and supported us along the way. The tour of the ITOKI head office where the employees actually work was helpful in considering work styles and various locations. They also swiftly proposed solutions to complex and difficult issues, making them a consistently reliable partner.
Another big benefit was that the proposal to incorporate the scenery allowed us to reaffirm the value of Lake Biwa. Although "Ripple Work" has just begun, employees are currently evolving their workstyles. We hope that ITOKI and we will continue to work together in the future, with the same vision in mind.

We focused on how to materialize the "Ripple Work" concept, which is filled with the client's aspirations, and how to create a space that makes the most of the perfect location overlooking Lake Biwa. We were able to create this office together, uniting our aspirations with the client.
"Ripple Lab" is a flexible yet symbolic co-creation space that can be used in a variety of different scenarios, and it has been a key element in dramatically changing the way we work. We were particular about the materials we used, and I think we were able to create a lab space where developers can actively co-create.
I was able to see the project through thanks to the positive attitude of the project members. I am very honored to have been able to be involved in such a wonderful project.
