Promotion of resource circulation - waste and chemical substances -
To reduce waste, the Itoki Group promotes a resource utilization loop through the 3Rs throughout the entire product lifecycle. We have also formulated guidelines for the proper management of chemical substances and are designing safe products in compliance with domestic and international laws and regulations.

Goals and achievements

Specific initiatives
Converting waste into valuable resources at logistics centers

Tokyo BASE's plastic sorting system
At our logistics bases in Tokyo and Okayama, we have been thoroughly separating vinyl packaging materials, which were previously disposed of as waste, and turning them into valuable resources starting in fiscal 2024.
As a result, 11,096 kg of vinyl packaging materials were recycled over the course of the year.
Converting waste into valuable resources at the Shiga Plant
At the Shiga Plant, polyethylene packaging materials are sorted through thorough waste separation and converted into valuable resources by pelletizing them using a dedicated pelletizer. This contributed to a waste reduction of 3.3 tons in 2023.

Guideline-based chemical substance management
Previously, we managed chemical substances in accordance with Japanese domestic laws. However, in light of the overseas expansion of our products, we have established the "Itoki and Itoki Group Product Chemical Substance Management Guidelines" that take into account overseas regulations, and are now managing chemical substances comprehensively throughout the product lifecycle.

TOPIC
①Continue donating used furniture overseas

In cooperation with NX Shoji, we are continuing our initiative to donate reusable office furniture to Cambodian government agencies, medical institutions, educational institutions, etc. We sorted out usable office furniture that was no longer needed due to office renovations and relocations, and donated a total of 2,200 items, equivalent to 15 40-ft containers. We received a letter of appreciation from the Kingdom of Cambodia for this initiative.
② Novelty pouch made from recycled chair upholstery

An employee who visited the chair factory thought that the discarded upholstery was a waste, so he worked with the manufacturing department to create pouches to be used as novelties. The sewing was done by the chair factory sewing team, so the pouches are sturdy. This contributes to reducing waste and is also popular with customers.
At the 2024 General Meeting of Shareholders, we also presented the product as a shareholder benefit gift, "monoiRe."
Issues and measures
We are working to strengthen compliance by formulating guidelines and systematizing management for both waste and chemical substances, but it is essential that those involved in handling these substances understand how they are handled. We will continue to provide more education to those involved, leading to business activities that have a lower environmental impact.
