Promotion of resource circulation - water -

Many of the Itoki Group's production sites are located in first-class river basins, and we have a responsibility to make effective use of the abundant water resources that nurture diverse ecosystems. We are working to protect water resources in the basins through water conservation and maintaining water quality through the installation of advanced drainage facilities.

Goals and achievements

*The main reason for not achieving the target is an increase in production volume.

Specific initiatives

Reducing water consumption by using rainwater

In order to make effective use of water resources, the Shiga Manufacturing Division of the Kansai Factory introduced a rainwater collection and utilization system in 2018, which is still in use today. Rainwater collected from the factory roof is purified using a filtration system and stored in a storage tank, reducing the factory's water consumption.

Reducing water consumption through powder coating

Powder coating equipment spraying

Previously, we used water-based paints and solvent-based paints to paint our furniture, but we have been switching to powder coating since 2004. As a result, we have been able to reduce the amount of water and VOCs (volatile organic compounds) used in the painting process.
The powder coating that was initially implemented by ITOKI (standalone) has now been rolled out to all office furniture manufacturing plants within the ITOKI Group, contributing to a reduction in water consumption across the group.

TOPICS: Contributing to the conservation of Lake Biwa's water resources through volunteer activities on Okishima Island

Omihachiman City, where the Shiga Plant is located, borders Lake Biwa, home to Okishima, a rare inhabited lake island. In 2024, ITOKI conducted volunteer cleanup activities around Okishima, working to reduce the deterioration of Lake Biwa's water quality and the negative impact on the ecosystem caused by the inflow of garbage.

Issues and measures

The Itoki Group strives to discharge clean water by setting voluntary limits that exceed legal regulations for wastewater treatment at its factories. Going forward, we will regularly review our voluntary limits and consider changing them to stricter standards, thereby ensuring that water quality is maintained at an appropriate level and protecting the water resources in the river basin.
