Realizing a ZEB office through renovation. As a model case for ZEB renovation for existing small and medium-sized office buildings.
Takenaka Corporation has a management philosophy of "leaving the world with the best works and contributing to society," and is engaged in activities that will lead to a "future sustainable society." For half a century, we have continued to create towns and architecture that value harmony with the environment. In 1992, we established the Planet Environmental Charter, in 2004 we launched the concept of Sustainable Works, and in 2010 we formulated an environmental concept for 2050 based on the environmental message of"connecting people and nature." There is. In light of this trend, the company plans to renovate its Higashi Kanto branch, which was completed in 2003, into a net zero energy building. Renovation work was carried out while the existing office remained in operation, and operations began in May 2016.

User's Voice
Takenaka Corporation
Mr. Akihiro Okada, Deputy General Manager of Workplace Production Division
Changing work styles plays a major role in achieving ZEB. We are creating an environment that encourages autonomous behavior so that employees are conscious of energy consumption as well as productivity. The key point is that you can now choose the area, lighting, and air conditioning for each purpose. We have a clear goal of ZEB, and by visualizing it, our employees are able to think and act on their own and achieve ZEB. This project showed that reviewing work styles and changing mindsets would have a significant impact on energy reduction.
Comment
This was a unique project in which the office was renovated in line with ZEB, and renovations were carried out while the office was in operation. We asked him about his desire to rethink the way he works in the office, and together we explored what kind of work style he should aim for and what kind of space he would like. We focused on three aspects: individuals (motivation, performance, thinking and intellectual creation), organizations (communication and health), and fixtures (use of existing fixtures with ECO in mind). Additionally, as an idea to characterize the new office, we chose the "sea" as a design motif, taking into consideration the natural environment of the location. This is expressed through graphics, interior design, fixture colors and materials, etc.
The renovated office has a new look and is now visited by many visitors. It is said that productivity has improved by allowing employees to choose their location, and this ZEB office is attracting attention as a new way of working.
