The aim is to seamlessly connect the showroom and office to attract customers, promote branding, and stimulate employee interaction to accelerate research and development.
Oxford Instruments Ltd, a UK-based company that provides advanced technology solutions for industry and research globally, has consolidated and relocated two locations to build a new Tokyo headquarters in order to promote branding by attracting customers to its showrooms and to create a sense of unity within the organization and accelerate research and development. In the new office, which combines a diverse workplace with showroom functions, employees are seamlessly connected and a new culture is being created.

Contribution to SDGs
Contribution to SDGs
As part of our efforts towards the SDGs, we donated used furniture and fixtures generated during our office relocation to public institutions in Cambodia. In addition to contributing to improving the country's education and working environment, we also contributed to the creation of a recycling-oriented society and the reduction of waste by giving usable furniture a second life.
User's Voice
Oxford Instruments Ltd.
Ayumi Takekawa, HR Director, HR Group
The construction period was extremely tight, and this project also required special changes to the building specifications, so ITOKI never said no to any of our requests, and always looked for ways to make them a reality. They also supported our new hot desking work style with the positive advice that it was possible. Currently, in order to further advance the work style of choosing a location according to the task, we are working on reviewing and improving rules so that everyone can work comfortably through "Cross J," an in-house project that collects information and solves problems across departments. In addition, the new showroom has been very well received by customers, and we feel that we are able to convey our efforts to create an environment that goes beyond just products as a new culture of our company.
Comment
The client's requests for this project included [consolidating and relocating from two locations], [creating an environment that combines an office, showroom, and lab], [creating new ways of working], and [creating an office environment that can broadcast from Japan to the world].
We proposed the office concept [seamless] and the design concept [Japan material]. We created a new office environment that removes organizational barriers, internal and external barriers, and barriers between uses (office, showroom, lab), and a new working environment based on the promotion and uniqueness of disseminating information to bases around the world as the Japanese subsidiary of a global company.
We also held an information session for all employees regarding the working style and operations we aim for in the new office, and took steps to enable employees to shift to the new working style after the move.

In order to implement the showroom and laboratory functions, it was essential to secure a power source, install a chiller, install laser equipment, and install research facilities and equipment with a maximum height of over 2,400 mm.
We were able to complete the office construction in the six months of the project, despite these negotiations, thanks in large part to the accumulation of specialized knowledge and the fact that we were able to involve decision makers and quickly reach a consensus in order to resolve issues.
We also listened seriously to requests for new work styles, communicated closely with staff, and made suggestions based on our knowledge, which led to the creation of the optimal environment.
