Evolving to a new business stage with a hybrid of in-person and remote work
"Global Hub Office"

Sumitomo Pharma Co., Ltd., which conducts research and development of pharmaceuticals and regenerative medicine and cell therapy, has rebranded in order to take on the challenge of globalization and new healthcare solutions. The company has relocated its Tokyo headquarters to a mega-plate office in Nihonbashi, Tokyo. The new office will implement a hybrid work style that combines in-person and remote work.
Based on the concept of "an office that people want to visit and are excited to visit," we took on the challenge of creating a collaborative environment that would accelerate innovation.

We had received support from Itoki in the renovation of our previous office, and they deeply understand our corporate philosophy and vision, which is why we asked them to work with us this time. This was a time-limited relocation project, and the COVID-19 pandemic meant that most meetings were held remotely, so the conditions were very different from the previous renovation. However, not only did they accurately interpret the work style we wanted to achieve and incorporate it into the design, but they also proposed new ideas.

We are very satisfied with the speedy response from kickoff to the relocation, which we believe was truly professional work. Receiving the Nikkei New Office Award has further increased our attention both domestically and internationally, which has also helped motivate our employees.

The company has been promoting work style reform since 2017, and we have been supporting it since then in formulating concepts and compiling design requirements.

The mission of this project was to maintain the "Workstyle Reform Goals" formulated in 2017, while also realizing the company's global vision and creating an "office that employees would want to come to of their own accord" in order to adapt to the changes in the environment surrounding the company.

In project management, we placed emphasis on the consensus-building process. By involving employees in consensus-building on everything from the concept to the layout and operational rules, we were able to move in with a high level of understanding and consent, which allowed everyone to smoothly adapt to the new ways of working in the new office.

In order to realize a global hub office, we worked with Sumitomo Pharma Co., Ltd. to think up and design an environment that would make people want to visit and be excited when they do. In order to spatialize the global corporate brand, we aimed to create a design that would foster understanding of diverse values, such as a collaborative environment that fosters a sense of unity, technology that seamlessly connects real and remote work, and the introduction of everyday art in overseas offices.

It will create new synergies and become a global hub. I believe that this workplace was only possible because all the project members shared a clear vision and values for the relocation and worked together to create it.
