From a vertical organization to one team

A space where people and information from different departments come together to challenge highly creative working styles

Asahi Shimbun Co., Ltd. was founded 146 years ago as a major newspaper company. Today, as a "comprehensive media company," it develops numerous online media and events. In response to these changes in business, the company has restructured its organization, and in April 2023 it launched the "Media Business Headquarters," integrating its main business divisions. The office for the new organization has become a place of challenge, with multiple departments working as one team to put into practice advanced ways of working.

The "center core" symbolizes the concept of the new office. A special interior and color scheme created a comfortable space that encourages creative interaction. The skeleton ceiling, water surface panels, and painted flooring, which removed the OA floor, create an open space.

We had previously worked with Itoki on the renovation of our editorial office, and in addition to evaluating their concept and design proposal, their knowledge of our company culture, working style, and the structure of our building were also major factors in our selection.
This project was a big challenge for our company, as it not only revamped our office but also our working style, but I think we were able to take on the challenge boldly because we were able to work as one team with people who knew us well. In terms of schedule management, too, while the start of construction was significantly delayed due to various circumstances, we were able to start operations as scheduled thanks to the coordination with the construction companies. Now that we have created a cutting-edge office, we would like to utilize this quality in renovating our bases across the country.

This was a very impressive project because all members were able to empathize with the office concept "CLEAR" and move it forward by delving deeper into the concept through discussion with the client.
As a result, we were able to work with the client to create the concept and the office they were aiming for, including a highly flexible layout with meandering traffic lines that encourages encounters, the use of transparent materials to express the concept of "Clear," and even original tables made from crushed newspaper, unique to a newspaper company, and a sign design with a dragonfly motif.
I feel that we have been able to create an office that is light and transparent, overturning the traditional image of newspaper companies as being solid and solid.

We supported Asahi Shimbun Company in trying new ways of working and solving communication problems through the creation of an office for their newly established organization, the Media Business Headquarters. We proceeded with the project with the goal of consolidating the various departments that were physically separated, creating interaction between the businesses all over the floor, and becoming a truly one team.
Through repeated discussions with the office staff, we were able to overcome vague concerns about the number of seats and gain on-site understanding about paperless systems, and ultimately create a space that supports diverse work styles. During the construction phase, we also felt that we were able to overcome the challenges associated with renovating our own building, thanks to the cooperation of many stakeholders.
