Environmentally friendly products - Manufacturing -
The Itoki Group consumes a large amount of resources, such as plastic and wood, in its manufacturing processes. We evaluate the environmental friendliness of our products from the planning and design stages, and actively implement environmentally conscious green procurement in subsequent procurement and production, thereby reducing the environmental impact throughout the entire product lifecycle.
green procurement
ITOKI has established green procurement standards such as ``reducing the amount of materials used, using recycled materials, and responding to recycling efforts to conserve resources'' and evaluates and certifies suppliers. Additionally, by conducting regular ongoing audits, we are expanding education and enlightenment activities regarding ITOKI's environmental activity policy, procurement standards, and the environment to all of our suppliers. For our suppliers who have not yet been certified under the Green Procurement Certification System, our procurement department and company-wide environmental office provide various types of support toward certification as a green supplier.
Specific initiatives
Redefining and redefining environmentally friendly products
Itoki has always set its own standards and has been creating products that are friendly to both people and Planet environment. As environmental issues become more serious every year, we have reviewed and re-established our own definition and standards for environmentally friendly products in 2024 in order to respond to these changes in the external environment.

- Green text indicates required items for each level
- Black text indicates options for each level (one of the options must be met)
- Level Gold meets the criteria up to Level 2 and also meets one of the criteria.
Sales of Level Gold products
In June 2025, we launched the new generation task chair "Act2," which has been certified as "Level Gold" in the environmentally friendly product standard. The seat uses "Respitec," a new 100% recyclable material developed by ITOKI, instead of the conventional urethane, which is difficult to recycle.

Refelt
We have developed "Refelt," an environmentally friendly product that actively uses recycled materials (to be released in 2024). In detail, the environmentally friendly product uses a process in which used PET bottles are turned back into fibers and molded into felt for the 3D molded back and seat shell that envelops the body, significantly reducing carbon dioxide emissions during manufacturing.

torte U Chair
The Torte U Chair, released in October 2022, is upholstered in sustainable fabric made from 100% recycled fibers from discarded PET bottles. In addition, the back and seat cushions can be replaced or replaced, allowing the product itself to be used for a long time and contributing to reducing waste.

This sustainable fabric is made from 100% recycled fiber from used PET bottles, reducing CO2 emissions during production by approximately 41% compared to virgin fiber.
Meet Lounge Sustainable
We are also promoting the use of new materials. Kenaf, a short-lived annual plant widely cultivated in tropical regions such as Southeast Asia, has a high CO2 absorption capacity during growth (about seven times that of conifers), and is one of the plants that contribute to preventing Planet warming. We have jointly developed kenaf boards made from kenaf with Toyota Boshoku Corporation, and released the "Meat Lounge Sustainable" in 2022, which uses the boards as table tops.

Olika eco, Wan eco
In addition, the Olika eco and Wan eco models use upcycled rice husks for the seat and back, making effective use of waste materials while at the same time reducing the amount of resin used.

Reducing CO2 emissions by reusing rice husks

By using resin made from recycled rice husks, which were previously discarded, for the back and seat shells, we can reduce the use of fossil fuels that emit CO2, a greenhouse gas, and contribute to achieving carbon neutrality.
Consideration for human health (GREENGUARD certified)
We proactively use health-conscious materials based on legal regulations and guidelines established by the Japan Office Furniture Association (JOIFA).

We are also working to obtain GREENGUARD certification, a US environmental certification system.
There are two types of Green Guard certification: regular certification and GOLD certification, which sets stricter standards. ITOKI's products such as Act (Act Chair), nort (North Chair), and vertebra03 have received GOLD certification.

Issues and measures
In order to expand our range of environmentally friendly products, we need to ensure that more of our products meet the requirement of "knowing the amount of carbon dioxide emitted throughout the product life cycle." To this end, we will work with our suppliers to proceed with CFP* calculations.
*CFP (Carbon Footprint of Products): An index of greenhouse gas emissions emitted at each stage in the supply chain of goods and services.
