A new development hub that continues to evolve and embrace challenges in a diverse environment, with employee comfort as a key focus.
TOKYO ELECTRON TECHNOLOGY SOLUTIONS LIMITED, which is responsible for research, development, and manufacturing for the Tokyo Electron Group, a world-leading manufacturer of semiconductor and display manufacturing equipment, has constructed a new development building with four aboveground floors and one basement floor at its Hosaka facility in Yamanashi Prefecture. It is positioned as a base for generating ideas that will lead to the strengthening of technological and development capabilities. It features a well-equipped office and a diverse environment that encourages employee interaction.

Visitor entrance
Visitor entrance
The entrance, which welcomes guests from Japan and abroad, was designed with a "glocal" theme, to express a Japanese and Yamanashi feel. A Japanese modern space was created, with a wooden frame design reminiscent of origami ceilings and lattice doors.

The graphic art on the walls represents employees as lines and teams as circles, expressing the concept of accelerating new product development as a collective. The space incorporates a number of firsts for the company, including bright orange benches and a skeleton ceiling that exposes the structure.

Aiming to create an environment that would foster further technological and development capabilities, this project also attempted some first-time initiatives, such as a collaboration area with a variety of spaces and a cafe lounge incorporating art. Although the COVID-19 pandemic meant that face-to-face meetings were not possible at the start of the project, we had the opportunity to tour the ITOKI headquarters office, which quickly deepened our relationship of trust and accelerated our plans.
The art and design taste we have adopted in Building 7 will become our standard for future office construction. We are currently working with Itoki on the renovation of our Fujii office, and we would like to work with them again if we have plans for a new office building.
Comment
For this project, the client requested that "we create a space in the new office building that would allow ideas to hatch," so together with the client and Taisei Corporation, we developed the office concept "Bunch."
We used "Bunch-ness" and "Yamanashi-ness" as design words, and while valuing the local atmosphere through art, local materials, and Koshu-Inden, we feel we have been able to incorporate a one-of-a-kind design into the space.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the project was mainly carried out remotely, but thanks to the unity of our client, Taisei Corporation, and ITOKI as a bunch, we were able to create a wonderful new office building.
