The school building has been renovated with the latest interior and facilities while retaining its symbolic exterior to accommodate a wide range of early childhood education and childcare classes.

The new Faculty of Child Education, Department of Child Education, which will be established at Shokei University in April 2023, aims to train future leaders in the childcare field, and is characterized by its education that cultivates high levels of expertise and practical skills, including special needs education. In order to accommodate this unique curriculum, the new faculty building will renovate an existing building on the Musashigaoka campus. While retaining the symbolic exterior, the interior and facilities have been renewed, transforming it into a next-generation environment that utilizes ICT equipment.

For this project, we asked ITOKI to propose furniture and fixtures based on their past track record and the ease of collaboration with Okumura Corporation, who was in charge of the design. ITOKI also proposed furniture for the Kuonji Campus, and the resulting space was very comfortable and well received by students and faculty.

The curriculum for the new faculty is designed to provide students with the latest knowledge and practical skills in early childhood education and childcare, and the purpose of this renovation was to provide a learning environment, fixtures, ICT equipment, etc. that would support these classes. The furniture and fixtures proposed this time have been met with high satisfaction on-site, and we believe that they have created an environment suitable for new learning.

Each room, furniture, and ICT are equipped to accommodate the diverse learning styles and specialized childcare education of the future. In the open space lounge, we paid special attention to the chairs, sofas, and upholstery so that students can spend their time as they like and in comfort.

In promoting the project, we carefully coordinated with the construction work. Both ITOKI and the construction work were carried out with a two-base system, with the design team in Osaka and the on-site response in Kumamoto, and it was a project in which mutual cooperation was important. There were times during the project when we faced difficult conditions, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and not being able to visit the site due to its distance, but we were able to overcome these by using the Internet, carefully preparing materials, and holding meetings.

I am very pleased to be involved in the renovation work on the Musashi-gaoka Campus, where promising students study.
