An innovation platform that aims to create new businesses with the theme of solving social issues.
MAEDA CORPORATION is a general construction company whose management philosophy is "honesty, ambition, and technology." In 2019, which marks the 100th anniversary of our founding, we opened a new research and development base "ICI Lab" in Toride City, Ibaraki Prefecture. ICI is an acronym for Incubation, Cultivation, and Innovation. Aiming to become a comprehensive infrastructure services company with the aim of achieving growth over the next 100 years, the company has started an innovation hub that aims to solve social issues through collaborative creation with various external partners.

The ICI Lab is a wooden building that takes into consideration the surrounding landscape and stands out in the sunset.

Sink into the comfortable sofa and read a book or enjoy a drink. The space filled with the warmth of wood will slowly unwind your overheated brain. The shelves on the walls are lined with books on architecture and art, as well as artworks that stimulate inspiration.

The left side of the photo is the high counter seat. It's a nice change from the office, and you can have lively conversations with your colleagues.

An open pantry with a cafe corner located in the center of the building. A space where you can feel free to stop by for a change of pace. The round shape of the pantry and table creates a soft feel.
Solo work area

The round shape and gentle atmosphere of the wood will calm your mind. The use of materials that are different from what you would normally find in an office is also an important element that stimulates the five senses. To the right is a semi-closed solo workspace that is loosely partitioned with a bird's nest-like shelf. A small raised space is installed on the left side.

The raised space in the solo work area has tatami flooring. There is a gaping space carved out in the middle of the bookshelf where you can lie down and think deeply, and if you go inside, there is also a nap corner.

A semi-closed space with individual partitions. You can concentrate on your work with a sense of security, as if you were inside a bird's nest, while being aware of your surroundings.

The dinosaur model in the center is a faithful reproduction of Fukuiraptor. This will not only highlight the company's wooden construction technology, but also create a different atmosphere within the nest building. It can also be used as a place for casual meetings and orientation during ICI lab tours.

An area where you can refresh your mind and body while looking out at the outside scenery from the south-facing window. Consideration was given to workers wellness.

The toilet booth also has an organic design that takes advantage of curved lines, with a nest (bird's nest) in mind. ICI Lab's attention to detail is reflected in every detail of the building.

If you're tired from work, refresh your mind by playing putter golf while soaking up the sunshine. The sense of unity with the outside terrace is pleasant. A little playfulness creates vitality for the next step.

Itoki, who was in charge of the office design for the Nest building, provided us with creative and free ideas. Interesting proposals that went beyond furniture and fixtures led to a variety of devices, including a raised tatami mat and a solo work space shaped like a bird's nest. The Nest Building is a symbolic building for ICI Labs, and it also plays the role of bringing people together, and I believe we were able to fulfill that role. Even now, every time you visit the Nest building, new artworks, furniture, and other features are added, so I think it has become a space that customers can enjoy no matter how many times they visit.

As the name "Nest building" suggests, the space is inspired by a bird's nest, with an impressive work space without office-like furniture. There are various features such as a concentration space inside a birdcage, a cave-like sleeping space, and an electric footbath, making the office as exciting as an amusement park.
The building is made of wood and has an organic feel. It is not only a beautiful space, but also an architecture that uses cutting-edge technology to create a large space even though it is made of wood.
Many people who love making things came together, came up with ideas, and were able to complete the project. I was able to work on a property that I rarely have the opportunity to experience, and I had a lot of fun working there.
