A transformation in work styles that prioritizes students.
A university office that can respond with high flexibility

Kogakuin University's Shinjuku Campus, which attracted attention as "Japan's first urban high-rise building campus" when it was completed in 1989, began large-scale renovation work in 2025, approximately 35 years after its construction. The first phase of this project involved the administrative floors, including the student center. Based on the concepts of improving services for students and new ways of working that are not bound by conventional ideas, the aim was to create an office with a "flexible" approach in both thinking and layout.

User's Voice

Kogakuin University
Hideki Nakajima, Deputy Director of the Academic Affairs Department

I believe this relocation was an excellent opportunity for us staff members to discuss what Kogakuin University should be like and what kind of work style we want to have. Regarding Itoki, I could sense that they had carefully read the policies that the working group members had considered during the competition, and I had the expectation that they would understand what we wanted to do and take this renovation seriously. In the actual project, through meticulous and careful communication, they were able to turn our ideas into reality.

I believe it's up to us how we use and make the most of the new office floor space going forward.

In this project, we considered how to improve the facility environment, which has remained largely unchanged since its completion, to better suit the current working styles of our staff. We designed the facility while considering what the future of university staff work should look like and what kind of student support center would be optimal for both staff and students.

Based on the pillars of "flexibility," "cross-departmental communication," and "improvement of student services," we introduced new initiatives for universities in both hardware and software aspects.

In the rapidly changing university market, we hope to continue to be a flexible administrative office that adapts to the times and provides a comfortable working environment for our staff.
