Easy to use and work for everyone. The new government building is designed with consideration for both citizens and employees.
Kawaguchi City is located in the southeastern part of Saitama Prefecture, and has a population of approximately 600,000 people, making it the second largest city in the prefecture after Saitama City, the prefectural capital.
For the new government building, we carried out programming work to formulate the appropriate area based on office fact-finding and analysis during the basic concept and basic planning stage, and at the time of the basic design stage, we carried out office planning work that was integrated with architectural design. In the subsequent relocation planning process, we created an efficient office layout that included not only office space but also counters, waiting areas, and consultation booths. A "universal layout" was adopted to allow flexible response to organizational changes, with no partitions and a large office space divided into north and south.

Exterior
Exterior
A new government building with 9 floors above ground and 1 floor underground, based on the concepts of ``disaster-resistant government building,'' ``environmentally friendly government building,'' ``easy-to-use government building,'' and ``easy-to-work government building.'' The entrance is on the second floor in consideration of flooding during Arakawa floods.

Civic cupola (atrium space)
Civic cupola (atrium space)
This atrium space is named after the word cupola, which is familiar to Kawaguchi residents. By letting in natural light and opening the windows at the top, natural ventilation is possible using the chimney effect.

Counter
Counter
The counter is linked to the concept color of the floor. From the lower floors to the upper floors, the colors represent the changing thermal temperature of the cast iron, a specialty of Kawaguchi City. The second floor is orange, indicating high temperature.

The consultation booth consists of low partitions. We used frosted glass panels and sliding doors to keep the space from becoming too closed-off and not spoiling the sense of openness.

User's Voice
Kawaguchi City Hall
Mr. Takashi Shimizu, Relocation Planning Section, New Government Building Construction Division, Finance Department
Itoki provided project management for relocating to the new government building. There were many difficult situations to overcome before the move to the new building was completed, but we were able to respond quickly to even the impossible demands that we requested. It was also very reassuring to know that they were always there for us and provided us with generous support.

Director
Masashi Imai
Kawaguchi City has won the "Truly Livable City Award" for two consecutive years due to its easy access to the city center and affordable land and property prices. One of the concepts of the new government building is to make it easy for everyone to use. I feel that I was able to play a part in realizing the concept by being involved in programming, office planning, relocation planning, project management, and the new government building construction process all at once.
