Drawing a picture of the future of ICT utilization in the learning commons
As the environment for active learning progresses, universities are also required to strengthen their functions to support students' independent learning, such as by creating learning commons. Under these circumstances, Itoki's face-up table caught the attention of University of Tsukuba Associate Professor Norihiko Uda (Library, Information and Media Department), who is researching the future of libraries. “With the digitalization of libraries, libraries themselves are required to function as new spaces. With this in mind, it is important to seamlessly connect physical spaces and electronic spaces such as face-up tables. If possible, a new space for intellectual activities will emerge there," says Associate Professor Uda. For this reason, he has introduced a face-up table in his laboratory and is researching how to use it together with his students. Our aim is to create new ideas to revitalize learning through the use of spaces, devices, and facilitators. It is hoped that by deploying the diverse information and ideas that students bring in on devices, comparing them, and processing them, they will stimulate each other, invigorate discussion, and invigorate learning.
Comment
The opportunity for us to work with the University of Tsukuba was the library exhibition held in November 2014.
Professor Uda, who had been researching the nature of "information" and "place" in libraries and meetings, saw the potential of FaceUp-Table and decided to deliver it.
Professor Uda has exchanged various information and provided us with valuable opinions on FaceUp-Table.With FaceUp-Table as an opportunity, ITOKI will continue to exchange opinions on products, the way "places" and "information" should be. I would like to proceed with this.
