Regarding Asbestos Use

Regarding the use of asbestos in our products

2008/8/12

Thank you for your continued support of our products.

We have conducted a survey regarding the use of asbestos in our products. Below are the current findings from our investigation.

The products listed below have been confirmed to contain "non-friable asbestos (chrysotile)-containing materials." However, there is a possibility that additional products containing asbestos may be identified. We will update this page promptly as new information becomes available.

1. No “friable asbestos (white asbestos: chrysotile)” is used.

We have never used, and are not currently using, any type of friable asbestos (such as sprayed asbestos), which has become a social issue.

2. We would like to inform you that in the past, we used "non-friable asbestos (white asbestos)-containing materials" in some of our products.

*The "non-friable asbestos (white asbestos)-containing material" that was used is an industrial product where asbestos fibers are fixed with a binder. Under normal use conditions, the risk of fibers dispersing into the air is considered low. However, forcibly peeling, folding, or cutting the asbestos-containing material may cause it to disperse, so please refrain from doing this under any circumstances.

3. Disposal of products containing "non-friable asbestos"

1. Products that use "non-friable asbestos" have asbestos fibers fixed with cement or other binders, so they can be disposed of as normal industrial waste (glass waste, metal waste, concrete waste, etc.). If there are instructions from your local government, please dispose of them in accordance with those instructions.
2. When entrusting disposal to an industrial waste disposal company, or when entrusting the dismantling of laboratory benches, sliding safe doors, and steel partitions for research facilities to a demolition contractor, please inform them that non-scattering asbestos material was used and the areas where it was used.
3. If you are disposing of the product in connection with the demolition or renovation work of a building, please dispose of them properly in accordance with the "Technical Guidelines for the Handling of Non-friable Asbestos Waste."

[Revision History] October 7, 2005: Released
August 12, 2008: Added gypsum board to "1. Safes and Fireproof Cabinets"

*Regarding the addition made on August 12, 2008: Upon discovering that some parts of the previously reported information were incomplete, we are providing the following update.
(Report Content)
In some safe products, sheet-shaped gypsum board (non-friable asbestos) was used inside the doors and drawer fronts. The names and codes of the affected products, along with an overview, have been added to the "1. Safes and Fireproof Cabinets" section.
Gypsum board, which contains a small amount of asbestos fibers, is used inside the doors or drawer fronts. However, since it is not exposed externally, it is considered unlikely that asbestos fibers will become airborne under normal use conditions. Nevertheless, if the cover of the door or drawer front is removed and the internal gypsum board is folded or bent, asbestos fibers may become airborne. Please ensure proper disposal in accordance with "3. Disposal of Products Containing 'Non-Friable Asbestos'."
