GOOD DESIGN AWARD 2014

Two products developed by ITOKI have won the Good Design Award at the 2014 Good Design Awards (sponsored by the Japan Design Promotion Organization).
GOOD DESIGN AWARD Winner
Book Truck AT

A book truck for transporting books in libraries. Conventional products have casters at all four corners, but many people have complained that they are difficult to move when loaded with books. The Book Truck AT is inspired by the large cart, and has large wheels in two central locations, which makes it easy to operate when loaded with books (30% less than our previous model). In addition, because it rotates around the large wheels, it has improved turning performance and can be moved smoothly through narrow aisles.
Evaluation Comments from the “Good Design” Committee
A large collection of books is very heavy. To reduce the number of trips that librarians have to make, they transport many books at once in book trucks. To solve this problem, a large diameter wheel was placed in the center in addition to the casters at the four corners. A similar configuration is seen in other genres of book trucks, such as food delivery carts, but it is extremely effective for operating book trucks. By making the operation easier at start-up and improving maneuverability, it is of great significance that it greatly reduces the burden on librarians who transport books many times a day. After the concept was established, it appears that repeated site inspections and prototype evaluations were carried out to realize an easy-to-use product.
Work Sense Resource Log/Medi Work

Energy management cloud service. Visualize energy data on the web at all scales, from a single breaker to multiple buildings and even communities. Anyone can check their energy status anytime, anywhere through a variety of devices. In addition, dynamic ``displays'' of news, electricity forecasts, weather forecasts, etc. are also being realized on digital signage.
Evaluation Comments from the “Good Design” Committee
By displaying energy saving information on signage, office users will become more actively involved in energy saving themselves. Visualization has had concrete effects, such as the fact that office power consumption peaked during off-peak hours.
