A government building open to the public that preserves the climate and traditions of Ishigaki in a modern way and realizes local production and consumption
This city hall is the embodiment of the local production and consumption initiative of "use, create, and connect." It is a "city hall where everyone gathers," preserving the scenery of Ishigaki. It uses red roof tiles, Ryukyu limestone Himpun (stone walls to ward off evil), Amahazi (large eaves), and Ryukyu pine, a local wood not usually used for architectural spaces, for the spandrels, columns, counters, and benches in the common areas. Yaeyama Jofu cloth is used for the desks in the assembly hall, and the hide of Ishigaki cow, which is used for food, is used for the chairs in the assembly hall. It is a new landmark of Ishigaki that makes use of the island's materials.
