Office furniture brand "NII" unveils new collection to the public for the first time in Japan.

We will be exhibiting at "AUTOBAHN," the main venue for DESIGNART TOKYO 2026.

ITOKI CORPORATION (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President: Koji Minato), which operates the office furniture brand "NII," will be exhibiting at "DESIGNART TOKYO 2026," Japan's largest design and art festival, which will be held from October 30th (Friday), 2026. At this exhibition, three new products from the "HAKUSAN," "BIWA," and "ALLROUND" collections will be publicly displayed in Japan for the first time at the main venue "AUTOBAHN" (KK Line [former Tokyo Expressway]) from October 30th (Friday) to November 3rd (Tuesday/Holiday).

At the venue, you can actually touch and experience the new collections "HAKUSAN," "BIWA," and "ALLROUND," which were first unveiled at the Milan Furniture Fair 2026, and experience the world view of "a stage where working people can thrive" that NII envisions.

ABOUT DESIGNART TOKYO

DESIGNART TOKYO is a design and art festival that started in 2017 with the concept of "INTO THE EMOTIONS." Set in Tokyo, one of the world's leading cities of mixed culture, it brings together leading talents from diverse genres both domestically and internationally, including interiors, art, fashion, technology, and food, to present exhibitions throughout the city. The theme for this year, its 10th anniversary, is "Hibiki." This resonates with NII's stance that new value is created when designers and manufacturers, products and spaces, and people resonate with each other, connecting people and encouraging thinking and collaboration. Take this opportunity to experience a "resonant workplace" through NII's products and spatial expressions.

PRODUCT OUTLINE

This new collection features three products created in collaboration with London-based design studio Industrial Facility, as well as Kohei Wada and Hirotaka Tako of ITOKI. The collection consists of "HAKUSAN" by Industrial Facility, "BIWA" by Wada, and "ALLROUND" by Takou.

This lineup starts with connecting people and supports a variety of activities such as work, meetings, and communication. While original, it blends naturally into the space, drawing out people's movements and relationships, and presents a new way of thinking about chairs.

HAKUSAN

HAKUSAN is a chair that combines individuality and universality, crafted from a die-cast aluminum and steel frame with a single plywood shell. The flowing silhouette, with its integrated frame and armrests, expresses both lightness and structural strength, bringing a quiet yet undeniable presence to the space. By using thicker diameter steel pipes than typical stacking chairs, it achieves an appearance that maintains lightness while possessing the calm stability of a dining chair. The contrast of materials and balanced proportions allow it to blend naturally into the space while exuding a subtle individuality.

FUNCTION

Designed for effortless handling in everyday activities such as stacking and moving, this chair minimizes wobbling when lifted, creating a lighter feel than its actual weight. Its design allows for a natural grip from the front, enabling smooth stacking with minimal movement. This chair is set to become a new standard, its ease of use becoming increasingly apparent with repeated use.

Industrial Facility

Founded in 2002 by Kim Colin and Sam Hecht, this design firm reflects a deep consideration of form and a unique understanding of contemporary life. Their approach to creating beauty from practicality in products, furniture, and exhibitions is highly regarded, and their philosophical yet practical methods are widely praised. Colin and Hecht have served as creative directors for Muji, Herman Miller, and Mattiazzi, and represent international clients such as Wästberg, &Tradition, and Santa & Cole. They hold the title of Royal Designer for Industry, and their works are included in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Design Museum in Helsinki, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. A complete collection of their work was published by Phaidon Press in 2018.

BIWA

BIWA is a work chair whose soft, organic form envelops the body, exuding a gentle presence in any space. The smoothly continuous shell shape and the shoulder rests that appear to float simultaneously convey a sense of lightness and security, allowing for free sitting positions that are not bound by a single posture. It is a new style of chair that has a lounge-like appearance while possessing the functionality required for work.
With a total of 21 color variations available for the upholstery, it can harmonize with a variety of spaces.

FUNCTION

It features the essential basic functions for work, such as seat height adjustment, smooth synchronized rocking, and locking of the initial rocking angle. The backrest is designed to accommodate various sitting positions, and the sides that cradle the body can also be used as armrests. It embraces the fluctuations that occur with each change in posture, seamlessly connecting concentration and relaxation. The floating-like shoulder rest has a light appearance, yet its supportive shape provides a sense of security, allowing you to lean back without interrupting your thoughts.

DESIGNER PROFILE
Kohei Wada, Itoki Product Design Department

At ITOKI, he has consistently designed "things you sit on," including office task chairs, meeting chairs, lounge chairs, sofas, and lobby chairs for public spaces. As a product that sits closest to the human body, his passion for chair design, which deeply impacts daily life, is endless. He has received numerous awards, including the iF Design Award GOLD, Red Dot Design Award, and GOOD DESIGN Award.

ALLROUND

ALLROUND is a product with a friendly and light impression, composed of rounded forms and smooth curves. Its simple structure with a single support column and minimalist appearance using metal materials quietly blend into the space, harmonizing with its surroundings without being overly assertive. The sculpted shape, as light reflects off it, further accentuates its roundness, creating a subtle presence in the space while softly changing its expression.

FUNCTION

By incorporating casters* beneath the base, concealing them from view, this stool achieves effortless, gliding movement. It moves naturally when needed and its position can be adjusted to suit the environment, flexibly adapting to people's movements and the flow of conversation. Beyond its use as a stool, it also functions as a simple table, increasing layout flexibility in workshops, meetings, and lounge spaces. It's a versatile piece that excels in a variety of office environments.
