ITOKI Announces New Design Guidelines "ITOKI SENSE 2025"-CMF Strategy to Pave the Future of Office Design

The next generation of working space created with the four concepts of "relaxation," "settling," "weaving," and "rebounding."

ITOKI CORPORATION (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President: Koji Minato) has formulated and updated its design guidelines, "ITOKI SENSE," which summarizes the CMF (Color, Material, Finish) that is the basis of spatial and product design, in order to respond to diversifying work styles along with social changes and to support the improvement of corporate productivity through the power of design. This time, ITOKI has redefined the spatial and product design required for the work styles of the future and announced new guidelines as "ITOKI SENSE 2025."ITOKI SENSE2025_page-0001.jpg

Background: Offices are moving from an "expense" to an "investment." "Design" that reflects the desires of workers is becoming important

With the spread of work remotely and hot desking, working styles have rapidly diversified. However, companies are now facing new challenges, such as weakened communication and teamwork, resulting in lower engagement and productivity, as well as difficulties in securing talent due to intensifying competition for recruitment.

In this climate, offices are changing from the traditional "place of work" to "places to maximize human capital," and companies are shifting their perception from "expenses" to "investment targets." In fact, our Nihonbashi office, which we operate as a working showroom, has undergone a series of design-focused renovations, which have resulted in improved engagement and productivity, and the increasing number of visitors indicates the high level of interest from companies.

"ITOKI SENSE 2025" is a new design guideline that incorporates the times and people's desires

"ITOKI SENSE" is a design guideline for CMF (Color, Material, Finish) that connects space and products.
Rather than simply incorporating trends in colors and materials, it continues to evolve while reflecting the changing emotions and feelings of the people who work there, and in recent years has become an important element of office design that contributes to maximizing human capital.

The newly formulated "ITOKI SENSE 2025" is designed to explore "optimal solutions for creating the future" amid growing uncertainty, and is based on four concepts: "Gentle," "Harmony," "Timeless," and "Curiosity."
The design incorporates elements that respond to working people's "awareness of the importance of diversity and inclusion" and "growing awareness of the need to stay healthy both physically and mentally." Each element appeals to people's sensibilities, contributing to increased motivation and engagement.

<Four Concepts of "ITOKI SENSE 2025">
• Gentle: Neutral colors such as beige and simple materials that are soft and clean create a calm impression.
• Totonou (Harmony): Based on soft neutral colors such as gray and charcoal, deep colors and high-quality materials create a chic and calm atmosphere.
• Tsumugu (Timeless): Primitive materials such as wood and stone are refined over the years, giving them timeless value and a sense of security.
• Curiosity: Carefully designed color combinations, graphical devices, and unique use of materials enhance creativity.

"ITOKI DESIGN HOUSE" Nihonbashi office implements "ITOKI SENSE 2025" to create "an ITOKI experience that can only be obtained here"

Since opening our Nihonbashi office in 2018, we have continued to renovate and update the space to keep up with the rapidly diversifying ways of working and the changes in the positioning and role of the office.

The 11th floor of the Nihonbashi office "ITOKI DESIGN HOUSE", which was renovated and reopened in November 2024, has been designed around the theme of "Tsumugu (Timeless)" from "ITOKI SENSE 2025" in order to create a place that increases team productivity and thereby "increases team strength", "wider points of contact" that bring together members from both inside and outside the company, and "an office people want to visit" through a comfortable environment.

The cafe space, where people can gather to eat and drink, was previously designed primarily for use as a meeting space, with a bright atmosphere that encourages interaction and was based on the theme of "Effortless" (*1). After the renovation, it was redesigned as a "WORK TERRACE" with a calm atmosphere and a more enclosed feel that is not too open, with a "Timeless" theme, so that it can be used for work in addition to its previous functions.

Additionally, the office area was previously designed with an "intelligence" theme, with people gathering together but primarily working individually. However, with the growing importance of team collaboration, it has been renovated into a "WORK SPACE" that is more flexible and designed to bring out creativity.

The entire 11th floor has been designed to incorporate calming spatial design utilizing natural materials to create a comfortable space that makes employees want to come to work, aiming to improve employee engagement.

About ITOKI SENSE

Itoki's CMF (Color, Material, Finish) design guidelines aim to make the workplace better and more comfortable by optimally combining colors, materials, and finishes in the office space.

At ITOKI, we periodically research and analyze office trends and comfort, which change with each era. We propose the ITOKI SENSE by guiding the elements derived from that research. The key CMF elements for each season are expressed as four"SENSE BOXes."
