10 years in a row! Itoki wins the 2023 Good Design Award for 5 products
Five products by ITOKI CORPORATION (headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President: Koji Minato Minato) have been awarded the 2023 Good Design Award, sponsored by the Japan Design Promotion Organization, a public interest incorporated foundation, including inSAIL, torteU, WaitingPS, SELUCK, and MINOTO Desk & Rack.

About the award details
inSAIL

A work sofa that allows you to flexibly switch between high concentration and communication.
A sofa with a table that has a back panel that blocks the view of those around you and is mobile enough to be moved easily. When multiple are lined up, they are suitable for focus work when used alone, and can be used as a communication space when facing each other.
(Judge comment)
The place for concentrated work tends to be fixed in the office, but by being mobile and movable, this high-back sofa plays the role of a new entity that can flexibly respond to various work scenes. By simply changing the direction of the device depending on the purpose, the user can use it for intensive work, online work, or even as a place for communication, and the system was praised for its simplicity and versatility. Achieving a compact size, the thin pipes and thin back panel are composed of exquisite curves, and the balance between the seat and panel is light yet stable, making it a masterpiece of excellent design.

torteU (torte U chair)

An office chair that fits the working environment of the future.
This office chair features a simple and universal styling that blends in with office interiors, a compact size, a "dual motion rocking" mechanism that creates a unique comfort, and a low environmental impact.
(Judge comment)
The company was praised for departing from the design of visible mechanisms, which was the mainstream of office chairs, and pursuing a design of mechanisms that are not visible, and developing and proposing a new office chair. This design is reproduced in the beautiful back of the chair, creating a light and natural form with the back and seat integrally molded, giving no hint of a reclining mechanism. The selection of materials with an eye toward reducing environmental impact and the use of uniformly gentle colors make the design easy to incorporate into today's living room-like office environments.

WaitingPS

A single-seater lobby chair designed with consideration for the safety and security of hospital waiting spaces and users.
Although it has a light design, it is comfortable to sit on, and since it is sized to seat one person, it can be freely combined according to the purpose. This is a phase-free lobby chair that can be laid out freely with safety in mind even in emergencies.
(Judge comment)
As a lobby chair for a hospital waiting room, the design carefully captures the modern issues and concerns that the space faces. Its configuration takes safety and hygiene into consideration, and the simple structure and design intent are easy to understand, allowing it to flexibly accommodate a variety of spaces, both everyday and extraordinary. Additionally, the ``luggage pocket'' on the backrest attracted the attention of the judges as a functional and unique concept. The company was highly evaluated in the screening for providing detailed solutions to the challenges and concerns faced by the increasingly diverse waiting spaces.

SELUCK

A study bag that you can use forever.
Now that we have become a society that accepts diverse values, there is a growing demand for options in the school bags traditionally used by elementary school students. Genderless and ageless, this functional bag can be used throughout the six years of elementary school and even into adulthood.
(Judge comment)
As products proposed for school bag syndrome, which has become a problem in recent years, have become popular, this product is not only lightweight, but also has an ageless design that can be used even after graduating from elementary school. The detailed ideas and processing have resulted in a practical design that can be used not only in learning settings but also in business settings. This is a new type of bag that parents and children can enjoy wearing together. This initiative can be praised as an effort to overturn stereotypes and boundaries such as children being children and adults being adults.

MINOTO desk & rack

A desk where you can share time and space.
Working from home has become established, and the way families spend time at home has changed. Even if you have completely different ways of spending your time in the limited space of your home, you can work comfortably while communicating with each other. MINOTO provides important time and space for families.
(Judge comment)
Minoto Desk & Rack had a very fresh impression when I first saw it. This is because even though the depth is only 100mm smaller, it looks very compact. I also really liked the concept that the desk was longer than a typical desk, allowing parents and children to sit together. In terms of design, it reminds me of a school desk, but it's not as clunky, and I appreciate the fact that the top plate is tapered to make it look thin and light, and that it emphasizes its compactness at first glance.
