This is an internationally prestigious design award sponsored by the German Design Council, established by the German Bundestag. In order to be nominated (candidate for an award), it is necessary to win a design award from around the world, and only those that have been recommended by the German Design Council can be nominated. For this reason, being nominated is considered an honor in itself, and the award is so prestigious that it is sometimes referred to as the ``award of awards.'' The awards consist of four categories in each category: "Gold", "Winner", "Special Mention", and "Nominee".
