Received the Chairman's Award at the Wood Design Awards 2017
"Design LAB Tsukishima" by ITOKI CORPORATION (Head office: Joto-ku, Osaka City, President: Yoshiro Hirai) has won the Chairman's Award (Encouragement Award) in the Heartful Design category at the Wood Design Awards 2017.
Also receiving awards were the "iVas" waiting lobby furniture series, which combines red pine from Iwate Prefecture with steel, and "Enpatia," "solatio," and "Humiski," products developed in collaboration with the Yamanashi Water Source Brand Promotion Council.
What is the Wood Design Award?
This is a system that evaluates and awards particularly outstanding products and initiatives that help people rediscover the goodness and value of wood from a consumer perspective. It applies to all things and events related to wood, including architecture and spaces, wooden products, initiatives, technology and research.
The aim of the awards is to promote and develop a "rich life with wood," enriching daily life and society, and promoting the use of wood. This year, 453 entries were submitted, with one Grand Prize winner, nine Excellent Prize winners, and 15 Encouragement Prize winners selected.

Including joint submissions, ITOKI has won 18 Wood Design Awards, of which two have received Encouragement Awards.

Design LAB Tsukishima
This is a manufacturing site where developers can redesign their thinking by repeatedly "making," "testing," and "showing" in one space in order to propose innovations for the office. The floors, walls, and furniture are made with an abundance of wood that has a textured finish, evoking a comfortable atmosphere that makes you want to visit and try things out. We hope to promote exchanges between planners and designers in the different fields of furniture and ICT, leading to the creation of products that have never been seen before.

iVas
A series of Japanese modern furniture for public transport waiting lobbies, appealing to the rapidly increasing number of inbound tourists in preparation for the Tokyo Olympics.
It was created in response to a recovery in demand for Iwate Prefecture-grown red pine, a material that had been declining due to changes in architectural styles, and in collaboration with a local lumber company and paint manufacturer.

What is Econifa?
This is a solution that utilizes local timber from all over Japan to make office furniture, contributing to an "increase in CO2 absorption" through forest regeneration and an "increase in CO2 fixation" through the use of wood.
Since 2010, ITOKI has been promoting Econifa initiatives and working seriously to utilize domestic timber, contributing to the creation of a wooden society. Going forward, we will continue to propose designs that maximize the appeal of local timber, incorporating the techniques and materials native to the land.
