Industry's first analysis simulation of a partition with seismic control function, "Seismic Control Partition X"
ITOKI CORPORATION (Head office: Joto-ku, Osaka City; President and CEO: Yoshiro Hirai) has been selling the building material product "Seismic Control Partition X" since July 2016, which improves the earthquake resistance of indoor spaces in various facilities such as office buildings and hospitals. This product is the first in the industry to incorporate a "seismic control unit" into the partition, preventing the interior ceiling panels from falling off and the partition from collapsing, and is part of ITOKI's disaster mitigation building material (*1) series, which increases the safety of the space.
The "Vibration Control Partition X" uses vibration dampers to attenuate the shaking of ceilings (conventional construction method) during earthquakes, reducing the risk of them falling off, and also suppresses the shaking of connected partitions, making it the industry's first new product that is effective in measures to "protect human lives" and "maintain functionality" in indoor spaces. It has been confirmed that it has no problems in vibration tests at a seismic intensity of 7 (Hyogo Prefecture Southern Earthquake, Kobe Wave).
This time, by combining ITOKI's abundant experimental data with the knowledge of Structural Design Engineering Corporation (Head office: Nakano-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Shota Hattori), which has a long history of experience in analytical simulations, an analytical simulation was conducted on the safety of ceilings (conventional construction methods), which are non-structural building components, to verify the effectiveness of "Seismic Dissipation Partition X" with more realistic ceiling specifications.

Validation Overview

Full-scale vibration test
25 square meters/1 set
Reduces ceiling vibration (conventional construction method) by more than 50%
- By using dampers to suppress ceiling shaking during a major earthquake, the risk of damage or falling of insufficiently reinforced conventional suspended ceilings is reduced.
- It also reduces the shaking of connected partitions, reducing the risk of panels falling off or collapsing.

No seismic isolation partition X installed

In full-scale vibration testing, safety was confirmed in demonstration experiments of a maximum area of 25 square meters (5m x 5m), but in this analysis simulation, safety performance was verified up to a maximum area of 150 square meters (10m x 15m), and it was confirmed that under ideal conditions, installing this product reduces the force on the ceiling surface up to approximately 10 meters away, which is roughly double that of conventional products.
