ITOKI CORPORATION (Head office: Joto-ku, Osaka City; President and CEO: Matsui Tadashi; hereinafter "ITOKI") will release the study furniture "1962" in December 2014.
The "1962," made from black walnut, a wood renowned for its fine quality, was conceived as an anniversary model for ITOKI, which celebrates its 125th anniversary in 2015.

In 1962, ITOKI was the first in Japan to make desks specifically for children. The original model was a single-sided steel desk, the most common type in offices at the time, with specifications modified to suit ordinary households and school children. Today, this has become part of the culture known as a "study desk."

The name "1962" comes from the year it was first released. The design has been redesigned to fit modern values while retaining the original design and ingenuity, and the material has shifted from steel, which was mainstream at the time, to wood, which is mainstream today.
Additionally, by adding two different sized upper shelves as options, it also relates to "storage," a keyword in ITOKI's current children's environment business.

The main material used is North American black walnut.
Black walnut is considered one of the world's three most precious woods, along with teak and mahogany, and is a precious wood that grows naturally on only about 5% of the hardwoods in the United States.
Its wood color and beautiful grain, the texture that deepens over time, and its moderate hardness, strength, and ease of processing have made it popular for high-quality furniture and musical instruments since ancient times.
The 1962 model makes generous use of black walnut, from the tabletop and front panel to the cabinet pulls and attached pen tray.
