Itoki unveils office space design examples for "ITOKI DESIGN HOUSE SENDAI"

We are creating a workplace that incorporates the culture and scenery of Tohoku and envisions the future of regional cities.

ITOKI CORPORATION (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Koji Minato) has published a case study of its working showroom, "ITOKI DESIGN HOUSE SENDAI," which was opened with the aim of solving corporate challenges in the Tohoku area and practicing new ways of working, in "ITOKI WORK-Style Design," a series that introduces advanced spatial design examples from a designer's perspective. This case study showcases how the company combined its expertise in work styles cultivated at its headquarters with the unique characteristics of the Tohoku region to create a hub that will disseminate future work styles in regional cities.

The spatial design draws inspiration from the zelkova tree-lined street of Jozenji-dori in Sendai. The use of flooring that evokes the interplay of light and shadow through the trees, and the open space that allows visitors to feel the cityscape and nature through large windows, express a connection with the local community. In addition, original sound-absorbing panels and cushion covers incorporating Aomori's traditional craft, "kogin-zashi," have been created. Cultures and materials from various parts of Tohoku, such as cedar wood from Akita Prefecture and Nambu ironware from Iwate Prefecture, have also been incorporated throughout the space. The aim is to create a space where employees feel a sense of attachment and pride to the region and want to continue working there.

In terms of work styles, we have created an environment where employees can choose their workspace according to their tasks by providing diverse work points such as focused work areas, sofa seating, and counter seating. We have also created a space that encourages interaction among employees and fosters new ideas by providing a cafe lounge and library area. Furthermore, we have installed art depicting landscapes that we want to preserve for the future of the six prefectures of Tohoku, creating a new connection with the local community. By fusing connections with the local community with new ways of working, this space embodies the future of workplaces in regional cities.
