ITOKI CORPORATION (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Koji Minato) will be exhibiting at the Security and Disaster Prevention Exhibition 2026, held at Intex Osaka from April 15th (Wed) to 17th (Fri), 2026, and will be introducing its multi-purpose disaster prevention shelter door, "BOUNCEBACK".

In Japan, a country prone to natural disasters, the importance of building shelters in preparation for natural disasters and emergencies is growing year by year, and discussions are underway to popularize them, with the "Parliamentary League for Promoting Shelters (Strong Evacuation Facilities) and Underground Use" being launched in 2022. Going forward, it is expected that shelters will also be built in public spaces such as municipal facilities, making them a familiar topic.

At this exhibition, the Japan Nuclear Shelter Association, together with its member companies, will present the first ever shelter zone (10 booths in total) at an exhibition in the West Japan area. Cutting-edge technologies, materials, and services related to underground evacuation facilities and nuclear shelters will be showcased all in one place.

Development Background

For half a century, our company has supplied approximately 3,000 specialized doors to advanced medical and research facilities in Japan, and has responded to a wide variety of demands and conditions with reliable quality backed by our technology. The multi-purpose disaster prevention shelter door "BOUNCEBACK" introduced here has impact resistance, airtightness, watertightness, and radiation shielding performance as disaster prevention and defense functions, protecting and shielding human lives and data equipment that are the foundation of social life from various threats.

In Japan, amidst increasing natural disasters and a more severe security environment, prefectural governors and mayors of designated cities, in cooperation with relevant local governments, designate evacuation facilities based on the National Protection Law. For emergency temporary evacuation facilities, which are sturdy buildings such as concrete structures or underground facilities, the five-year period from fiscal year 2021 to 2025 is designated as a period of intensive effort to promote their designation. As of April 1, 2025, there are 61,142 emergency temporary evacuation facilities, of which 4,233 are underground facilities (buildings from which evacuation to the basement is possible). (*)

Even in the private sector, an increasing number of individuals and companies are considering setting up underground shelters, and in Japan, where natural disasters are common, underground shelters are said to be effective in the event of earthquakes, typhoons, and other natural disasters, and their usefulness is attracting attention.

Main features of the multi-purpose disaster prevention shelter door "BOUNCEBACK"

- Made in Japan, achieving world-leading impact resistance, airtightness, watertightness, and radiation shielding performance.

BOUNCEBACK is a completely Japanese-made product, with everything from planning and design to parts procurement and product assembly completed in Japan. Based on simulation-FEM analysis, it features an explosion-proof structure that achieves impact resistance of 400 kN/m2, as well as airtightness of 2 m3/m2·h (at differential pressure: 10 kPa) and watertightness of 0.03 m3/m2·h (at water head: 10 M) thanks to the adoption of a 2-way hinge. Furthermore, by creating a labyrinthine design in the handle shaft, it achieves radiation shielding performance equivalent to 200 mm thick ordinary concrete without any shielding gaps.

• Despite weighing approximately 1.4 tons, it features an opening and closing/tightening system that can be handled by women and children.

The door, weighing approximately 1.4 tons, can be opened and closed smoothly without feeling its weight, even by women or children, thanks to its high-performance hinges and precise installation.

Six safety measures to ensure safe handling even in emergencies.

It features an integrated opening and closing bar that prevents hands and fingers from getting caught, a safety cover at the hinge end that prevents hands and fingers from getting in, floor clearance that prevents shoes from getting in, a 2-way hinge that moves towards the frame with handle operation, a round, flat handle (spokeless handle) with no gaps or protrusions that could cause rubble or hands to get caught, and a handle lock mechanism that prevents operation when the door is open. This ensures safe handling even in the chaos of an emergency, preventing secondary accidents such as injuries.
