ITOKI to exhibit at the Pharmaceutical Equipment Exhibition attached to the Japan Pharmaceutical Association Academic Conference, starting on Sunday, October 12th

The automated medication picking system "DAP with MediMonitor," which went on sale this spring, and the "tray position display LED shelf" will be exhibited for the first time in the Kansai area.

ITOKI CORPORATION (headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Koji Minato) will exhibit at the 58th Japan Pharmaceutical Association Academic Conference Pharmacy Equipment Exhibition, which will be held at the Kyoto International Conference Center from Sunday, October 12th to Monday, October 13th, 2025 (national holiday). The company will showcase the "DAP (Drug Automatic Picking system) with MediMonitor," an automatic drug picking system jointly developed with Medical Fields Corporation (headquarters: Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture; President and CEO: Yuya Hatada), as well as the LED cabinet-type "Tray Position Display LED Shelf."

The "DAP with MediMonitor" being exhibited this time is an automated picking system for dispensing pharmacies that uses small robots to store and retrieve medication trays. The system integrates "drug picking" and "audit support functions" for dispensing pharmacies through automated storage and retrieval and an advanced audit support system.

Main features of the product

- Pursuit of space saving
The slim and square device integrates the inspection area, allowing for on-site inspection after picking. This device also offers a high degree of freedom in in-store layout, making it easy to install in small and medium-sized stores.

・Pursuit of work efficiency
Equipped with eight loading and unloading ports that reflect the feedback of on-site pharmacists, this absorbs variations in the time it takes for each drug to be processed, allowing drugs to be unloaded in order without waiting for the drug to be completed, reducing the amount of time lost due to equipment downtime caused by workers waiting to complete their tasks.

- Pursuing tray arrangement inside the cabinet
By accumulating data on actual storage and retrieval, the system automatically rearranges tray positions within the storage overnight based on the frequency of a period set by the operator, with the push of a button. By rearranging frequently used medications closer to the retrieval entrance, the time it takes for the equipment to operate is reduced.

・Pursuing measures to deal with irregularities
In the event of a power outage or equipment malfunction, the front door can be unlocked and the medication tray located at the front of the storage room can be manually removed.Audit work can be carried out smoothly using a charged tablet device.

Furthermore, the "Tray Position Display LED Shelf" allows dispensing tables to be laid out to suit each customer, so it can be installed anywhere for audits, even in limited space. The highly visible LED display allows multiple people to pick medications at the same time. Like "DAP with MediMonitor," the system's smooth drug inventory and advanced audit support prevents errors in drug picking and helps alleviate pharmacist manpower shortages.

Development Background

・Preventing medication picking errors and resolving the shortage of pharmacists in rural areas
The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare issued "PSEHB General Notification No. 0402 No. 1 (commonly known as 0402 Notification)" (Note 1) in 2019, allowing people other than pharmacists to gather the required amount of medicine listed on a prescription and check the quantity of medicine in a single dose under certain conditions. However, there are approximately 13,000 types of ethical drugs (prescription drugs) (as of August 2025) (Note 2), and there is a risk of error when picking medicines from among the many items.

In addition, while the number of pharmacists working in pharmacies and medical facilities is increasing year by year and now stands at more than 250,000, the labor shortage of pharmacists is becoming more serious in some regions. The number of pharmacists per 100,000 people by prefecture is high in Tokushima Prefecture (244.0 people), Hyogo Prefecture (236.6 people), and Tokyo (235.7 people), while it is low in Okinawa Prefecture (149.4 people), Fukui Prefecture (163.6 people), and Aomori Prefecture (167.2 people), with a difference of more than 1.6 times between Tokushima Prefecture and Okinawa Prefecture. (As of December 31, 2022) (Note 3)
