ITOKI will release "Opacity," a high-definition divider that allows for flexible combinations of transparency and functionality, starting August 4, 2025.
A new partition that creates comfortable boundaries and spaces for interaction between office workers in an office space where diverse activities intersect
ITOKI CORPORATION (Head office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Koji Minato) will begin releasing "Opacity," a high-definition divider that allows for flexible combinations of transparency and functionality, on Monday, August 4, 2025.
Development background
As hybrid work becomes more commonplace, new challenges arise for offices, such as stimulating communication, creating spaces that can flexibly accommodate changes in attendance rates, and providing an attractive environment that will help secure talent and increase corporate value.
In response to these issues, Itoki reconsidered the nature of the co-work area (working desks and seats used for other activities) that forms the heart of the office. In particular, they focused on the following three points:
- Seamlessly linking work and communication
- The number of spaces can be increased in response to changes in the rate of attendance at work, and they can be used for multiple purposes.
- An attractive space that lifts the spirits
The co-working area is not just a place for office work, but also a place where a variety of activities intersect. To respect each activity, an appropriate sense of distance is required. However, making the boundaries too clear risks reducing opportunities for communication. For this reason, we felt that a form of "partition" was needed that would allow for both a comfortable distance and interaction.
This idea led to the creation of a new divider called "Opacity."
The structure allows various items to be attached between the supports, allowing it to separate the space while also providing a space for communication and storage.Transparent materials and a structure with open spaces have been used to create a "comfortable boundary" that protects privacy while still allowing a natural sense of connection with the surroundings.

This product features a structure that allows you to erect support posts and attach various items to any level. By attaching transparent "perforated metal panels," "steel shelves," "niche shelves," and "storage with doors" to the support posts, it is possible to set the appropriate level of line of sight to suit the use of the space while also providing storage functionality. It is possible to adjust the eye level to give the space a moderate sense of openness while maintaining privacy in areas where privacy is required. It helps create an environment where office workers can feel a sense of unity while also being able to concentrate on their work with peace of mind.

By attaching a counter and sofa to the support pillars, traffic lines and area boundaries can be used as places for communication or temporary work.In addition, by combining a sofa and niche shelves, you can create an entrance/lobby space that includes an exhibition corner, centered around a counter, and create a cafe space where people can drop in casually during work hours.

The shadows cast by the overlapping perforated metal lend a delicate beauty and depth to the space, while the ceiling-high structure creates a visual impact. By insetting the support posts inward, we have achieved a clean, open impression overall. The 12mm steel shelves are unreinforced, and are beautiful even on the back, pursuing a refined, minimalist form. The texture of the wood furniture with a veneer finish brings warmth and quality, unique to natural materials. The rounded edges of each item add a softness and intimacy to the entire space, creating an atmosphere that naturally draws office workers to gather.
Two types of support structures to choose from depending on the space and usage
This product is available in two types with different support pole shapes.
- Fixed type: This type divides the space from floor to ceiling, allowing for a more dynamic spatial presentation. The base of the support posts is unified into one piece, creating a clean, open feel.
- Stable leg type: The support poles are supported by stable legs, allowing the product to be installed without being fixed to the ceiling. Since it is fixed only to the floor, it is easy to change the layout after installation.
