ITOKI renovates one floor of the headquarters office that will become the new base for The Asahi Shimbun Company

A spatial design that "intentionally eliminates aisles" creates opportunities for chance encounters between people

ITOKI CORPORATION (Head office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Koji Minato) has published an office renovation example from The Asahi Shimbun Company (hereinafter, "The Asahi Shimbun Company") on its design gallery site "ITOKI WORK-Style Design," which introduces cutting-edge spatial examples from a designer's perspective.

The Asahi Shimbun Company renovated one floor of their head office in Chuo-ku, Tokyo in conjunction with the launch of a new department. They built a new office where employees who were previously spread across different locations could come together and actively communicate with each other. For this project, ITOKI was in charge of project management, layout design, and interior design.

The renewal was planned with the concept of "CLEAR," aiming to increase the transparency of the organization and communication and encourage open collaboration. A symbolic space called the "center core" has been set up in the center of the floor, and functions such as work areas and concentration booths have been freely arranged throughout the office, with a zoning system that "intentionally does not create corridors" so that people can move between them, creating a mechanism that makes it easy for unexpected encounters and conversations to occur within the office.

To express the Asahi Shimbun Company identity, the visitor area features an original countertop made from cut-up newspaper. Additionally, the signs on the floor and in the meeting rooms incorporate subtractive color mixing, a principle used in newspaper printing, and the newspaper's Tombow mark, creating an interior design that allows the company's identity to be experienced everywhere.

This space breaks away from the typical office space of a traditional newspaper company and embodies cutting-edge working styles, creating a place that fosters clear relationships between employees and contributes to the creation of new business value.
