ITOKI adds LED display cabinet type to its lineup of drug picking systems for dispensing pharmacies, helping to prevent errors in drug picking operations and alleviate the shortage of pharmacists
While maintaining the same size as a conventional medicine shelf, the LED display makes it easy to understand intuitively.
ITOKI CORPORATION (Head office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President: Koji Minato) will launch the "DAP (Drug Automatic Picking system) with MediMonitor," an automatic drug picking system that integrates a device for automatically storing and retrieving drugs with an audit support system, jointly developed with Medical Fields Corporation (Head office: Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture; President: Yuya Hatada), in April 2025. We are pleased to announce that we have decided to simultaneously add a new LED cabinet type, the "Tray Position Display LED Shelf."
Product development background
・Preventing errors in drug picking and resolving the shortage of pharmacists in rural areas
The "0402 Notification (Note 1)" issued by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare in 2019 has made it possible for people other than pharmacists to prepare prescription drugs and check the quantity of drugs in single packages under certain conditions. However, there is a risk of error in picking from approximately 13,000 items (as of October 2024) (Note 2).
In addition, while there are more than 250,000 pharmacists nationwide, there is a difference of more than 1.6 times between Okinawa Prefecture (149.4 people) and Tokushima Prefecture (244.0 people) per 100,000 population, and the shortage of pharmacists is becoming more serious in some regions (as of December 31, 2022) (Note 3).
The newly developed "Tray Position Display LED Shelf," like the "DAP with MediMonitor" automated medication picking system for dispensing pharmacies, enables smooth medication storage and retrieval and provides an advanced audit support system, helping to prevent medication picking errors and alleviating the shortage of pharmacists.
Main features of the product
- Slim design that won't get in the way when placed next to an existing dispensing table
Since the layout of the dispensing table can be tailored to suit the customer, it can be installed anywhere, even in limited space. The LED display can be seen from a distance, and multiple people can pick at the same time (up to a maximum of 5 people).
- Equipped with an advanced prescription inspection support system, the intuitive operability supports accurate and smooth drug picking operations
It is equipped with an audit support system from Medical Fields Co., Ltd., which was created under the supervision of a pharmacist with extensive field experience. It is composed of a system that proactively utilizes the latest technology while also incorporating legacy technology that is familiar to a wide range of users. It is intuitively operable using a tablet, and can be used with confidence by inexperienced users and those who are not good with machines, supporting accurate and smooth drug picking operations.
・Can be used in conjunction with the automatic drug picking system "DAP" and can be connected to multiple drug shelves.
Even after installation, it is easy to add more shelves and connect them together (up to 5 shelves can be connected). It can also be installed together with the automatic drug picking system "DAP (Drug Automatic Picking system) with MediMonitor" and operated with the same audit support system.
How to use the product
By simply inputting the data into the receipt computer, the LED on the corresponding medication tray will light up, allowing you to easily find and take out the medication. Furthermore, by checking the data with a barcode reader and conducting a weight audit, it is possible to check whether the medication is correct or not.
