Dalton wins the 2024 Good Design Award for its new brand for research facilities, "MAGBIT"

The design was evaluated for its achievement of creating an ideal research environment by bringing to light the stress that researchers unconsciously build up during their research activities, such as confusion, misunderstandings, inefficiency, and discomfort.

ITOKI CORPORATION (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President: Yoichi Ohdate), a group company of Dalton Corporation (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President: Koji Minato), has received the Good Design Award for 2024 from the Japan Institute of Design Promotion for its new brand "MAGBIT" for research facilities.

"MAGBIT" is a new brand for research facilities that considers various problems that arise during research activities as "behavioral bugs," identifies them from the researcher's perspective, and designs smooth and beautiful behavior. Based on the concept of "THINK Action," this is Dalton's new solution born from the idea of working closely with researchers to create optimal solutions for research activities.

(Judges' comments)
The design process of this product made clear the stress that researchers unconsciously accumulate during their research activities, such as confusion, misunderstandings, inefficiencies, and discomfort. The optimal solution to eliminate these stresses was derived by taking an approach that designs the actions of researchers, and embodied in the shape and color of the product, such as an intuitive correspondence between the handle and nozzle by reviewing their relative positions, and improvements to the sash frame and glass borders that take into account the researcher's line of sight when using the product. In addition to functionality and safety, the design was evaluated for achieving an ideal research environment by enhancing the emotional value for researchers.

About the Good Design Award

Founded in 1957, it is Japan's only comprehensive design evaluation and commendation system. A wide variety of things, both tangible and intangible, are evaluated comprehensively based not only on design but also on process, philosophy, significance, etc., and the 100 works that receive particularly high marks from the judging committee are selected as the "Good Design Best 100."

Dalton won the Good Design Award in 2019 for its experimental bench "savanna+" and was selected for the "Good Design Best 100." This is Dalton's second time receiving the award with the "MAGBIT."
