Technical research into next-generation remote communication systems using Microsoft HoloLens
ITOKI CORPORATION (Head office: Joto-ku, Osaka City; President: Yoshiro Hirai; hereinafter referred to as ITOKI), together with HoloLab Inc. (Head office: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Kaoru Nakamura), a certified partner of the Microsoft Mixed Reality Partner Program, has created a prototype of a next-generation remote communication system that utilizes the head-mounted display "Microsoft HoloLens" (※1), which realizes MR (Mixed Reality), and exhibited it as a reference at the HoloLens booth (HoloLab Inc. booth) at "de:code 2018" (organized by Microsoft Japan Co., Ltd.), a technology conference for IT engineers, held at The Prince Park Tower Tokyo from May 22nd (Tue) to 23rd (Wed), 2018.
This research is a prototype in research into the nature of communication with remote locations, and envisions its use in remote conferences. By projecting remote conference participants in 3D images, it will provide a immersive viewing experience that makes it seem as if you are actually taking part in the conference.
Going forward, Fujitsu will conduct demonstration experiments using this prototype to verify the difference in the level of communication compared to previous video conferencing methods that used displays, etc., and then proceed with product development to realize the "cyber-physical office"(*2).
ITOKI will continue to propose future visions for offices and contribute to creating more attractive office spaces.

We at HoloLab are extremely honored to have worked with ITOKI on this challenge to explore the possibilities of the office environment of the future using HoloLens.
This was an important initiative that embodied ITOKI's mission statement, "We Design Tomorrow. We Design WORK-Style." The system provided a new communication experience that takes advantage of HoloLab's expertise in sensor device application development technology, just like HoloLens.
In the future, we hope to use this prototype to conduct experiments in innovating office environments, and ultimately develop it into a system that will bring about innovation in the modern workplace.
