Suruga Bank to begin exhibiting artificial intelligence system technology that will support future meetings at its communications space "d-labo"

Starting today, Nihon Unisys, Ltd. (Head office: Koto-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Shigeru Kurokawa; hereinafter "Nihon Unisys") and ITOKI CORPORATION (Head office: Joto-ku, Osaka; President and CEO: Yoshiro Hirai; hereinafter "ITOKI") will begin exhibiting a prototype of an artificial intelligence (AI) system that will support future meetings at "d-labo Midtown," a communication space of Suruga Bank Co., Ltd. (Head office: Numazu City, Shizuoka Prefecture; President and CEO: Mitsuyoshi Okano; hereinafter "Suruga Bank").

This "Future Meeting" system combines Nihon Unisys' artificial intelligence with Itoki's cutting-edge work style design to stimulate communication between people and support creative work, such as supporting ideas in group work and increasing common understanding.

Since November 2014, Nihon Unisys and Itoki have been conducting joint research into a system that supports collaborative communication, called the Near-Future Office U&I Space Project (Note 1), with the aim of building near-future office spaces that will unleash greater creativity. The prototype exhibited this time is a concrete example of the results of this joint research.

Suruga Bank's mission is to help customers "make their dreams come true" and "put a date on their dreams," and they are actively working to realize cutting-edge financial services. The bank's communication space "d-labo" has been developed as a place to create new lifestyles and share dreams beyond the framework of a bank, and this resonated with the concept of the "Future Conference" research that supports communication and creativity between people, leading to this exhibition.

In addition to the hands-on exhibit of the "Future Meeting" system, a viewer system will also be exhibited that allows users to use gesture controls to view information about seminars previously held at Suruga Bank's "d-labo Midtown." Seminars on artificial intelligence that will change the future and cutting-edge work style innovation will also be held.

An overview of the exhibition and seminars is as follows:

・Business hours
Monday to Friday 11:00 to 19:00, Saturday, Sunday and public holidays 10:00 to 18:00

·overview
You can actually experience a creative meeting in a near-future office (no prior registration required). A computer with a brain called "Common Sense AI" that has common sense, understands context, and reads the mood of the room will join the meeting as another participant. It will pick up words from the conversation and present hints on the table that will spark new ideas and inspiration.

Future developments

Nihon Unisys and Itoki will continue to promote the creation of "collaborative communication in the near-future office" by leveraging the synergistic effects of the strengths of both companies. (Note 2) As part of the joint research "Near-future Office U&I Space Project," the companies aim to commercialize a system that supports near-future office spaces through prototyping and demonstration experiments within the next three years.

Nihon Unisys's research results on artificial intelligence (AI)

The research and development of the "Conference Room of the Future" using artificial intelligence is drawing on knowledge gained from the "Let's create a computer that can read the mood" project, which was conducted as part of Nihon Unisys' efforts to develop artificial intelligence with common sense.

Itoki's creative process "trans."

It is a design concept for an organizational knowledge creation process that allows for free and instantaneous mode changes between the four modes of the creative process: [individual and organization], [divergent and convergent thinking], and [2x2], which leads individual ideas to organizational creativity. Change the environment, repeatedly shift your thinking, and transform your ideas. This is ITOKI's idea of transformation into creativity, "trans."

  1. "Near-future Office U&I Space Project"
The "U&I" in the project name combines three meanings: the "U" from Unisys and the "I" from Itoki, the "U" and "I" from Universal Intelligence (common sense AI that is universal to all people), and the "U" and "I" from User Interaction Space (a futuristic office space that uses ICT to support users' collaborative communication).

  2. The strengths of Nihon Unisys and Itoki
Combining the artificial intelligence (AI) research being promoted by Nihon Unisys with "trans.", the creative process concept advocated by ITOKI, is expected to invigorate communication between people and further support creative work.
