GOOD DESIGN AWARD 2006

On October 2nd (Monday), the results of the 2006 Good Design Award (50th) were announced, and the following four items received awards.

glass partition

glass partition

Glass partitions make up private rooms within the office. Since the connection angle between panels (165° to 195°) can be set arbitrarily, a wall with any curved surface can be constructed. Efficient and variable office spaces can be configured in R-shaped office buildings, etc. The panel structure is asymmetrical, with the front side emphasizing the solid feel and continuity of the glass, and the back side being shaped to ensure strength. Since the glass is integrated with the frame, it is easy to install and can be easily rearranged. Additionally, there is no need to change the parts even if you change the connection angle between panels.

Evaluation Comments from the “Good Design” Committee

R-shaped office buildings have been difficult to design to meet costs due to competition for internal passage space, but it can be said that this partition has increased the degree of freedom in design. Furthermore, even in a normal square building, being able to easily create an R-shaped space inside is desirable, not only because of the novelty of the design, but also because it gives a sense of softness as a human space. Although it is possible to finish the interior work with wooden shafts, considering the environmental impact, a reusable aluminum and glass unit system is the correct choice.

multi card reader

multi card reader

As security issues become more important in various places, access control systems are recognized as the most basic and important security measure, and systems that are highly reliable and convenient are required. Card Entrance System MC is a simple and easy-to-understand entrance security system that allows you to open and close the door just by swiping your IC card.

Evaluation Comments from the “Good Design” Committee

It is desirable to create a design that is simple and easy to understand for anyone who uses it, and allows the door to be opened and closed simply by swiping an IC card. Also, the thin and small shape allows it to be installed on any wall without looking out of place.

table [DDE]

table [DDE]

A meeting table that features a sophisticated design that matches current architecture and a wide variety of variations that make extensive use of aluminum and glass.

Evaluation Comments from the “Good Design” Committee

Currently, the mainstream of office buildings tends to use aluminum and glass extensively for both exterior and interior finishing materials. Office interiors are also moving in the direction of being more open and light, rather than looking like a stately office. Against this background, in recent years, office furniture with a style that matches this trend has been created, and this product was praised for its clean aluminum legs and overall light and refreshing exterior design.

interlink

interlink

In order to create an office that can respond quickly and effectively to changes in the business scene, Interlink is a workstation that aims to operate the universal plan most efficiently. We have made various functions and items as simple as possible, and have thoroughly pursued a streamlined design. It embodies the design philosophy of minimalism. We propose a new office space configuration with a new sense of stylish form that has honed its functionality as an office desk to the utmost.

Evaluation Comments from the “Good Design” Committee

Workstations that are shared by multiple people are becoming more and more common in the workplace. The ideal is to be able to sit anywhere with no legs in the way, and to be able to freely remove wiring without looking unsightly. This workstation's goal is to be extremely simple, and it accomplishes that to a great extent. Although it is a large top plate that can be connected up to a maximum of 9.6 m, the top plate is thin at 20 mm and gives a sharp impression. You can feel the spirit of the designers who tried to perpetuate the design concept of minimalism.
