ITOKI will release "Refelt," a felt chair made from recycled materials with a high-quality design, on Monday, June 3, 2024

The environmental impact has been reduced through both the selection of materials and the manufacturing process. The curved beauty and felt texture achieved through our unique molding technology create a sophisticated impression in a variety of spaces, including workspaces, lounges, and cafe areas within the office.

ITOKI CORPORATION (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President: Koji Minato) will release "Refelt," a felt chair made from recycled materials that enhances space with its comfortable texture and high-quality design, on Monday, June 3, 2024.
*This product is intended for businesses. We are not currently planning to sell it to the general public.

■ Features of "Refelt"

・Create a sophisticated space with our unique molding technology and product design

Utilizing the ergonomics knowledge cultivated in the design of task chairs, we used our own technology to three-dimensionally press-mold felt-like polyester fibers to create a voluminous 3D seat and back shell that envelops the body of the person sitting in it. The leg frame is made of high-tensile steel pipes with a diameter of 12.7 mm, which are thinner than those typically used in chairs. The pipe bending technology we have cultivated over many years in the manufacture of meeting chairs has been used to create a leg frame that follows a sharp and highly rigid trajectory, lightly supporting the seat and back shell as if they were floating in the air.
In recent offices, there is a growing need for cafe areas, lounge areas that encourage communication among office workers, and collaboration areas for open innovation. Refelt's beautiful silhouette and soft felt texture give these spaces a high-quality, sophisticated impression.

・Reducing the environmental impact through both material selection and manufacturing processes

The back and seat shells are made of polyester felt containing about 50% recycled fiber made from used PET bottles, reducing manufacturing energy and CO2 emissions compared to chair parts made from conventional plastic molds. The seat cushions are also made of chip urethane, which is made by crushing and remolding urethane scraps generated during the manufacturing process and after product use.

These manufacturing processes are completed at nearby bases within Japan, which also contributes to reducing transportation energy.

- A variety of finishes to brighten up any space

The chair comes in three body types: a shell chair (four legs, swivel legs with casters) and a high stool, and the felt back and seat shell comes in two colors: light gray and dark gray. The legs are available in satin black and light gray paint finishes, as well as a special copper color and polished aluminum finish, which will add a more luxurious touch to your interior.

■The thoughts behind the product name "Refelt"

"Re" includes the prefix "Re-", which means "repeat" or "again", as well as the meanings of Recycle, Refine, and Rebirth.
The name "Refelt" reflects our desire to contribute to a circular society by combining the highly sustainable recycled material "Felt" with high design in future furniture manufacturing.
