Designed by product designer Fumie Shibata, SHIGA was conceived with careful attention to the visual impression it creates when multiple chairs are viewed together within a space. The silhouette of the armrests and backrest gives it a calm, furniture-like quality. The clean underside of the seat, the separation between the seat and backrest, and the border element on the backrest create a visual horizontal line when arranged throughout an office, giving SHIGA a light and refined appearance. At first glance, SHIGA presents a geometric, minimalist form, yet incorporates ergonomically designed curves that naturally support the body, achieving a balance of beauty and comfort.

While its appearance is simple, SHIGA embodies the knowledge and expertise ITOKI has cultivated through years of chair development. The rocking mechanism features Ankle Pivot Synchro Rocking, in which the backrest and seat move with the ankle as the pivot point. As each joint opens during recline, it enables a natural reclining posture with less strain on the body. A slim under-seat design, including the rocking mechanism, maintains a clean appearance while delivering comfortable movement that responds naturally to the body. The solid aluminum armrests are available in two types: T-shaped and adjustable. The operation buttons beneath the seat and on the armrests feature an elastomer surface for added tactile comfort.

A rich variety of options is another hallmark of SHIGA. In addition to seven body configurations that can be selected to complement the office design, upholstery options include ITOKI's original fabrics in sophisticated solid colors (8 colors) or light two-tone combinations (7 colors), fabrics from Kvadrat, a leading Scandinavian textile brand (3 colors), and genuine leather with a refined feel (2 colors). The frame is available in three types of finish: satin paint (3 colors), mirror-finish aluminum, and gloss paint (3 colors). The distinctive texture of each material and the refined, understated color palette create a chair that feels comfortable to sit in day after day.

The name SHIGA comes from Omihachiman City in Shiga Prefecture, where ITOKI's Kansai Factory is located. It is a place where advanced quality control technology and a strong commitment to craftsmanship have long been cultivated. As an office furniture manufacturer, ITOKI is one of the few companies that still manufactures its products in Japan (Japan-made). The compact under-seat design that defines SHIGA, the technology required to combine minimalist design with full functionality, lasting comfort for extended use, and a wide range of options were all made possible by the Shiga Factory.
