At the heart of the comfort inspired by Spina's spirit of omotenashi are two exclusive mechanisms. The Passive Slide Seat (PSS) mechanism draws the seat toward the backrest the moment you sit down, bringing your seating position closer to the backrest. At the same time, the Active Lumbar Support (ALS) mechanism pushes the lumbar section of the backrest, the area that supports the lower back, forward as you take your seat.

Working together, these two mechanisms create an innovative seating experience that accommodates even shallow sitting, something conventional chairs could not achieve. No matter how you sit, the chair responds naturally, providing firm support for your hips and pelvis. Spina's spirit of omotenashi is not an abstract concept. It is embodied in a single principle: comfort, regardless of how you sit.

As you sit down, the seat lowers and slides backward while the backrest moves forward to cradle your hips. As you stand, the seat gently rises and moves forward, helping you stand with ease.

Flexible enough to wrap around the body horizontally, yet supple in the vertical direction, the backrest adapts to the body's varied movements for a precise fit. This suppleness, one of Spina's defining features, is made possible by elastomer, a resin material with properties between plastic and rubber.

The distinctive vertical rib design allows the body to make contact in lines rather than across a flat surface, reducing concerns about the stickiness often associated with resin materials. Air also flows between the back and the chair, allowing heat to dissipate more easily and creating a cooler feel than conventional chairs made with fabric and urethane.

By selecting a material that works in harmony with the mechanism while also offering strong design potential, Spina achieves a distinctive form that defines its identity.
